Principal Geotechnical Engineer at PSM, Bernard Shen has over 20 years' experience in geotechnical engineering consulting and has worked on a wide range of geotechnical projects. His areas of practice include site investigations, foundation and retaining structures engineering, tunnel design and construction as well as large-scale earthworks for industrial developments. Bernard graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2003 with First Class Honours. After completing his studies, Bernard joined PSM in November 2004 and subsequently completed his Master of Engineering Science degree at UNSW in June 2010.
Bernard has a particular interest and recognised expertise in major tunnelling projects in Australia including Sydney Metro, Cross River Rail, Suburban Rail Loop, WestConnex and NorthConnex, and was the lead designer for some of the largest rail caverns constructed in Australia. He also has a strong interest in industrial developments, particularly complex site investigations and large-scale earthworks, having contributed to projects in both Sydney and Brisbane.
Bernard has published widely and presented technical papers at various national and international geotechnical, and tunnelling conferences. He is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) and on Engineers Australia’s NER in the fields of civil, geotechnical and structural engineering. He is also a member of the Australian Geomechanics Society.
