
Robert Bertuzzi is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer of PSM, with over 30 years’ experience in his field. He served as Managing Director at PSM from 2007 to 2016 and currently serves as Chair of the PSM Board of Directors.
Robert’s area of practice has been in mining and tunnelling, and he has worked on over 100 projects from feasibility design through to planning, implementation and remedial works across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Asia and Africa.
Robert is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AUSIMM), Institute of Engineers, Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS), Australasian Tunnelling Society (ATS) and is the Australian representative for the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM).
In 2017, Robert was awarded a PhD from the University of New South Wales for his thesis “Rock mass properties for tunnelling”. In addition to consulting, Robert contributes to the profession through education, teaching the subjects Rock engineering for underground structures and Rock bolting for slopes in the University of New South Wales Master of Engineering Science course since 1999. He has authored and co-authored 65 peer-reviewed and technical papers and published two books in his areas of expertise.
Robert assisted NSW WorkCover in preparing its 2007 Code of Practice and its 2016 update, AustRoad in its Tunnelling Guidelines (2010) and Queensland’s TMR in its draft tunnelling guidelines (2015-2016).
