Adrian Smith

Principal Geotechnical Engineer at PSM, Adrian Smith has over 15 years’ experience in his field. He is also the manager of PSM’s Queensland operations. Adrian’s primary areas of practice as a geotechnical specialist include rock mechanics design and operations for large mining and civil infrastructure projects.

Adrian has an active interest in academic research and is currently co-supervising a PhD student at the University of Queensland. With extensive operational experience as a geotechnical engineer, Adrian brings a practical approach to the application of fundamental and theoretical engineering design and implementation. Adrian has a particular interest in delivery of projects with appropriate cost and risk.

Adrian has presented at conferences and authored a number of academic papers.  He is an active member of the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS), and the Australian Tunnelling Society (ATS). He is also a Registered  Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in the fields of civil and mining (geotechnical) engineering.

Adrian specialises in geotechnical studies for underground mines, open-cut mines and large civil projects. His fields of special competence include:

• Underground mining and associated infrastructure
• Assessment and management of slope instabilities
• Tunnel design and operations
• Operational inspections and advice
• Problem definition and solution development.
